Best Farm to Table Experiences

The Oregon seasonal harvest is ever-changing, and tasting each of the seasons’ glorious offerings paired with delicious Oregon wines is one of our favorite things to do. We humbly believe that Oregon boasts some of the best food and wine in the world with creative chefs who passionately work to perfect their craft. And when it’s locally harvested or even prepared onsite at the farm where the food was raised, it’s even better.

From wine pairing harvest dinners to happy hours to hole in the wall restaurant discoveries who boast their own farm resources, here are a few of our current favorite farm to table experiences.

The Kitchen at Middleground Farm

Chef Kate snuggles a friend from the goat herd

Nestled in the outskirts of Wilsonville, The Kitchen at Middleground Farm is a cozy oasis where you can gather to learn cooking and canning, attend wine pairing dinners and picnics or simply be a guest at an intimate dine and learning event.

On this small, private farm, the Kitchen itself is situated in a refashioned cattle barn that is welcoming and inviting. While the Wine Maker Dinners are fantastic, the Dinners in the Garden series during the spring and summer are not to be missed. You’ll reserve an entire table for alfresco dining with a 4-course pre-fixe menu from seasonal produce, mostly from the garden along with offerings from the 25 hens that live onsite and cheese from the small herd of Nubian goats at $95 per person.

For a quicker visit, the happy hours are great featuring small bites and local wine.

Filbert’s Farmhouse

Twenty minutes south of Lake Oswego, on the side of the road in the small historical town of Aurora, Oregon, you’ll find Filbert’s Farmhouse Kitchen, a farm to table oasis of great food and community, located in a 150 year old farm house. Inspired by restaurants in small towns in Italy, owner Bernice Bean envisioned a place where community and neighbors come together to create memories over good food. She succeeded. Featuring Northwest seasonal cuisine, Filbert’s Farmhouse Kitchen boasts unique dishes, often featuring filberts in the dishes themselves (also known as hazelnuts) which grow prevalently in the area, including on the property itself. This intimate setting offers seating inside and outide overlooking the orchard, and while all the food is not sourced onsite, they source things locally and seasonally and their chef is world-class.

Make a day of it! We love to walk around the small town of Aurora, known for it’s cluster of antique shops, to find that perfect coffee table accent or vase for your home, or check out nearby Lady Hill Winery for a tasting just down the road a ways.

Quaintrelle

A hidden gem nestled into a SE Portland neighborhood, Quaintrelle cuisine is unforgettable. Chef Ryley Eckersley creates a dining experience where all the puzzle pieces come together in beautiful, unpretentious, flavorful dishes with as much direct connection to farm, oceans and ranches as possible.

While you can go a la carte, we recommend the chef’s tasting menu, which is a playful experience of colorful herbs and flavor explosions that is not to be missed, featuring seasonally changing, freshly-sourced ingredients from local farm partners and across the Northwest. The wine steward knows his stuff or if you prefer to go the cocktail route, you’ll find that the creativity expands beyond the kitchen.
